Cumbria’s Hawkshead Relish have announced that they have been shortlisted as regional finalists in the 4th annual Rural Business Awards sponsored by Amazon.

The Awards celebrate the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy – a business segment which employs in excess of 3.4 million people, in over 750,000 businesses in England alone.

For the first time since launching in 2014, the Rural Business Awards will host a series of regional finals in the North, East, Midlands, South East, South West, Wales and Northern Ireland, throughout October 2018, ahead of the Grand Final in February 2019, at the beautiful Chateau Impney, in Worcestershire, where the winners from each of category in every region will be announced.

The Cumbrian company is up against some top competition in the Best Rural Manufacturing Business category for the North, with the winner being announced at The Last Drop Village, Bolton, on 09th October. Alongside Hawkshead Relish the category contenders include; Breckenholme from North Yorkshire, Fin Hunter UK from Roxburghshire, Harrison Spinks from West Yorkshire and Skyeskyns from the Isle of Skye.

(The Northern region covers rural businesses in Scotland, Northumberland, Cumbria, Durham, Tyne & Wear, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Isle of Man and Cheshire).

Anna Price, Co-Founder of the Rural Business Awards, said: “Our aim is to celebrate the incredible and important work being done by rural businesses across the UK. The 2018 Rural Business Awards will be our biggest and best yet, with 13 different awards up for grabs for rural products, people and services.”

Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, Amazon commented: “At Amazon, we want to help shine a spotlight on the best of rural businesses – small and large alike. Rural businesses are crucial to the UK economy and we want to ensure they are recognised for their success.”

Maria Whitehead, MBE, co-owner of Hawkshead Relish, added: “We’ve had a fabulous year so far, being presented with further accolades for our innovative products; including our latest creation, Black Garlic Pickle. Being shortlisted for an award like this marks the efforts of the entire team. We hope that we can do the team proud and win through for them and for Cumbria in this year’s Best Rural Manufacturing Business category for the North. Then if we are lucky enough to get through to the national finals we can see about bringing home one of the national plaudits too – so wish us luck and let’s get everything crossed for 09th October and then for February 2019.’’
