The winners of the sixth Boutique Hotelier Personal Service Star Awards were announced during an evening champagne reception, held at the Hilton Olympia, on the 15th October. During the evening’s proceedings Rothay Manor’s restaurant manager Craig MacFarlane discovered that he had won the award for Restaurant Manager of the Year.
Craig won through to claim this top accolade, despite facing stiff competition from his fellow shortlisted finalists Jacopo Nardini based at One Aldwych, London and Mariano Camerlingo based at The Ned, London.
Each year the award, part of the Boutique Hotelier Personal Service Star Awards, is given in recognition of the restaurant manager who has taken demonstrable steps to develop their team and who has set out to deliver a high quality and consistent dining experience for his or her guests.
During the awards process the shortlisted finalists were judged by leading industry figures Peter Hancock, chief executive, Pride of Britain Hotels, Giovanni Grossi from The AA, Philip Turner, founder, The Chestnut Group and Michele Mella, general manager, Barnsley House.
Boutique Hotelier Senior Editor Zoe Monk said: “Craig was the clear winner in the eyes of the judges. He demonstrates a keen eye for culinary excellence, working closely with his head chef to increase profit, while delighting guests and easing demand on staff.
Zoe added: “The panel were particularly impressed with the way he goes above and beyond to ensure the rest of his team are continuingly learning and feeling supported. We were impressed by the way he organises external site visits to help the team to expand their knowledge of certain food procurement processes as well as encouraging development and training; this is something that is really commendable, and we felt highly deserving of the winner’s accolade.”
