Giggs and Neville sign up with Foodinate initiative

GG Events and Catering, owned by former Manchester United players Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, is the latest organisation to team-up with Manchester based social enterprise charity Foodinate.

The new partnership has been worked in a way that for every single person attending an event booked through GG Events and Catering, Foodinate can ensure a hot, nourishing meal is provided for a local person in need at no extra cost.

The packages are available at all GG locations including Hotel Football, National Football Museum, Manchester Cathedral and Salford City FC.

It is the first events partnership in which Foodinate is included as standard and at no extra cost to the client.

GG joins city centre establishment 1761 and The Lead Station in Chorlton which have both very recently signed up to the scheme as well as The Studio Venue Company.

Launched in 2015 by 25-year-old Caroline Stevenson, Foodinate now operates in six cities and is looking to expand further by forming partnerships with national restaurant chains over the next 12 months.

It has secured over 20,000 meals for people in need that are served at a number of beneficiary centres including  Mustard Tree in Manchester which helps people in poverty and the homeless.

Caroline said “Growing up in Manchester, I felt so angry seeing the increasing number of people sleeping by the sides of the road, begging for money and food,” she said.

“It’s crazy to think that we live in the seventh richest country in the world, yet more than 13 million people are living below the poverty line.”

Gary Neville said: “When we heard about the Foodinate scheme, we knew it was something we wanted our events and catering company to be involved with.

“Homelessness is a serious problem and if we can help make a difference, we will.

“Providing free meals to people through GG Events and Catering is important to us – we have lots of different events lined up for this year, we’re growing and getting more venues on board.

“For our clients booking events through us to know they are also making a difference in the city, is also very important.”
