Lancashire-based Choc Amor has upped its environmental credentials by introducing plant-based compostable packaging for the majority of its range.
The new compostable chocolate bags, which contain Choc Amor’s popular chocolate slabs, make up an impressive 80 per cent of the Choc Amor range. The packaging uses a specialised film which is natural and eco-friendly. The principal raw material is renewable wood pulp from sustainably harvested, FSC managed forests and the material will ultimately biodegrade in the ocean.
Mawdesely-based entrepreneur Paul Williams of Choc Amor, said: “Despite running a small business, the ability to recycle or compost really matters to us and our customers and we try to be as eco-friendly as we can in all that we do.
“Conventional packaging is, of course, easier to source and it is cheaper, but helping the environment in any way we can is extremely important. To become sustainable, every step of the process is a little bit different and challenging but it is definitely worth it and we are committed to packaging as many of our products as possible in fully recyclable or compostable material.”
Earlier in the year, the company was recognised by the Academy of Chocolate and later triumphed at the Great Taste Awards, where its Three Pepper, Salt & Pepper Lemongrass and Brown Butter & Nibs Chocolate were awarded coveted 1-star Great Taste awards.
Paul stated: “We were pleased to win our first award in 2019 from the Academy of Chocolate. But then delighted to win a further three from The Great Taste Awards. So only another six to go to hit our target of 50 awards!”
