Lifetime Achievement accolade at British Cheese Awards for Lancashire globe trotter

After a 30 year career in the cheese industry, Garstang resident John Carr was given a lifetime achievement award at the recent British Cheese Awards.

Known affectionately known as “the Oscars of the cheese world”, the awards are held annually at The Bath and West Show in Somerset.

A delighted John said  ‘This was a complete surprise. I was both flabbergasted and honoured to receive it”

A career that has included work in Paris, and has seen John win two Queens Awards for Export and an O.B.E. for services to exporting in the 2010 New Year’s honours list, he has travelled worldwide representing British cheese makers.

More recently, John has set up his own specialised exporting company – Cheese Matters offering sales support and advice both to UK producers and international clients.

John continued “I am delighted to be supporting local cheese makers Dewlay in their quest to develop a world class exporting company. They have an enviable heritage, a state of the art production facility, and most importantly a team where Cheese Matters”
