Wolftown is a new drinks brand, created in and inspired by the market town of Ulverston. Its first drink will be a classic London Dry Gin.
Wolftown is the creation of TV professional and video producer, John McKeown, who is wishing to swap life on the road for more time at home and to further his passion for food and drink.
“I have had an incredible career in Television for 25 years now, taking me all over the world working on global events such as the Summer and Winter Olympics and Football World Cup Finals – as well as work in the UK, filming premium sports and entertainment shows – though now it’s time to enjoy more of what is happening at home with my family,” John says.
Ulverston, on the edge of the English Lake District, is known as the Festival Town, though many aren’t aware of the town’s Norse origins. Ulverston’s name derives from the Norse word Ulfar, meaning Wolf Warrior and it is this history that has inspired Wolftown.
“I wanted to encapsulate the festival spirit of Ulverston, whilst at the same time reflecting on the town’s history, by creating a brand that local people can get behind and one that will resonate further afield,” continued John.
“My family are behind me and I can’t wait to bring Wolftown to market.”
Branding was completed by Eclectic from Staveley, whose current clients include Kin Vodka, Hawkshead Relish, Carr’s Flour and many more.
Wolftown’s first release, is small batch premium gin, distilled using botanicals including sarsaparilla root, ginger, cinnamon and citrus.
“Sarsaparilla root was the first ingredient that came to mind when thinking about producing our first gin. I grew up drinking the local sarsaparilla drink and I couldn’t resist trying to make it work – and it has produced a smooth, slightly sweet and distinctive gin,” John enthused.
“As a Cumbrian, ginger had to be in there too and this gives the drink a wonderful warm finish.”
The first batch will be sold for pre-order online through a Crowdfunder campaign and the company website, with delivery guaranteed before Christmas.
The new gin from Wolftown will also be available to sample and buy at Ulverston’s annual Dickensian Festival on November 23rd & 24th, 2019.
